On September 26th, Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) struck the Philippines with a force that hasn’t been seen in decades. Over a month’s worth of rain fell in one day, causing tremendous damage to 26 provinces, and putting the capital of Manila up to 80% underwater. The initial death toll is at 246 men, women, and children; hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced, watching their houses, possessions, and lives disappear in the flood. Whole neighborhoods swept away, while in manila, the typhoon disabled the majority of medical facilities.
